With the culling of the iconic British Motor Show in 2008 the next best thing for us Brits is the Geneva Motor Show, arguably THE biggest Motor Show in Europe.

And thanks to low cost flights, book early enough and you can get there for around £80 return, not bad.

So that’s what I have proceeded to do the last two years. You fly out around 8am in the morning and land back in the UK at 10pm, it’s a long day with lots of walking but it’s a must make pilgrimage for any car aficionado.

Leaving Luton Airport early Tuesday morning I was heading for the first press day, a quick hour and a half flight and I’m on the tarmac in Geneva. Strangely enough it was far warmer in Switzerland than Bedfordshire…

I went there last year with some friends, it is really an amazing show. Especially due to all the debuts of the new cars. However we went on the last sunday, which meant it was very crowded later on the day around all the popular brands. Luckily we departed by car, it only is an 7-8 hour drive if you stick to the limits, in the Netherlands around midnight, and were in Geneva around 7-ish having taken a breakfast and a stroll at lake Geneva, since we were too early for the show to open. So early on we headed to the furthest point of the building to escape all the people, this meant we actually had some decent photo opportunities. I think we left Geneva around 4 ‘o-clock and then drove back home, we did however stop to eat some great Schnitzels in Germany, and arrived around midnight again. That was one crazy day: 24 hours, around 1700 km, and a lot of walking on the show.

Wow that is dedicated! Long old drive.
I have heard the normal public days are absolutely packed! I think it would be a good idea to limit the amount of numbers in and out, otherwise it just becomes pointless trying to get pictures or actually see anything.
